The 1KMJ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I register on the day of the walk?
A: You can register at the Registration tent on the Capitol Square and State Street. However, there will be an additional cost for same-day registration. The cost is $35 per participant with a minimum pledge commitment of $25, totaling $60 per person. You will receive your race packet at that time, but t-shirts may not be available for same-day registration.
Q: Where do I pick up my packet and T-shirt if I pre-registered?
A: Check in and final pledge drop off is Saturday, July 30th from 12pm-2pm at the Urban League (222 S. Park St, #200, Madison, WI 53713) .
Q: What do I do with the pledges I collected?
A: Pledges must be turned in at the Check In Location before 2pm on Saturday July 31st to be considered for prizes. Pledges mailed in must be postmarked Friday July 22nd to be included for prize consideration. Online pledge deadline is midnight Friday July 29th . Pledges are welcome past these dates but will not be included in the tabulation for prizes.
Q: What if I’m too late to pick up my t-shirt?
A: Packets can be picked up after race day by contacting The Rainbird Foundation at info@rainbirdfoundation.org.
Q: Can I pick up walk t-shirts and packets for others?
A: Team leaders are encouraged to turn in final pledges and pick up packets for their entire team. Family members may do the same. Pledges must be turned in order for packets and T-shirts to be picked up.
Q: Are strollers allowed at the walk?
A: Yes. As are little red wagons & baby joggers. For the safety, strollers and wagons must be operated by an adult. Though wheeled transport is allowed, the event is a walk, please do not jog or run during the event. NO BICYCLES, ROLLER BLADES, HEELYS, SKATEBOARDS, RIPSTIKS, OR PETS.
Q: Can I buy t-shirts or other merchandise?
A: Yes. T-shirts are available at the Goody Booth. You can also purchase them from the store on the Rainbird Foundation website: Rainbird Store!
Q: Where is the finish line?
A: The walk will begin at West Washington and complete at Wisconsin Ave. One mile is one and ¾ laps around the Capitol Building.
Q: Where is parking?
A: Parking is available at all city ramps off the Square. There will be no parking on the Square before the event. Cars left on the Square after 8am on Sunday the 31st will be towed.
Q: Is there a bus to get me to and from parking?
A: No. Please allow yourself time to walk from your parking spot to the Square.
Q: Can I catch the city bus to get to the event?
A: Regular bus lines will be diverted off the Square for the event. However, they will be running along the Outer Loop. We invite you to minimize traffic in the area and to green the event by using public transportation to get you and your family or team to the event.
Q: What time should we arrive?
A: Pre-registration begins at 10am, Speakers will begin at 12 noon, the walk will begin when the speakers are complete.
Q: When will the prizes be given?
A: At the awards ceremony scheduled to start after the last walker has complete the route. We anticipate this will be around 2:00pm.
